GearLight LED Headlamp S1000
This is a comfortable headlamp that is easy to adjust to get a good fit. The light is very clear and comes in 4 options; high, low, strobe and SOS. You can tilt the light by 90 degrees and focus the beam for seeing long distances.
It is weather-resistant, great for use in the outdoors and has an excellent battery life, especially when used in low mode. It is a tad bulky and heavy for some people but that is something you will get used to.
The battery pack is a bit flimsy and if you are hiking, or clip it with something when moving around it may pop out. It does not include a red beam which is best when you are fishing as red light won’t disturb the water as much as white light.
Pros
- Good light
- A few modes to choose from
- Well made
- Good fit and easily adjustable
- Batteries last a long time
- Weather-resistant
Cons
- Quite heavy
- The battery case is a bit flimsy
- Bulky
- No red light option
GearLight LED Headlamp S500
This headlamp is super lightweight as you can see from the picture. It will not add much extra weight to your backpack when hiking to your spot and is great for wearing over long periods of time.
It is comfortable and adjusts nicely to the size of your head. It does not have the supportive overhead straps of other models, but you can get around this by wearing it on top of a hat.
The light is clear and comes in a range of modes, including a red light mode which is ideal for fishing. Although it can be tough to switch between modes, which could get annoying but is also useful that it won’t change by mistake.
This takes AAA batteries and has decent battery life. It is shock and weatherproof but the housing is not so durable. It is excellent value though and you get two in the pack.
Pros
- Red light included
- Shockproof
- Weather-resistant
- Lightweight
- Comfortable
- 2 for 1
Cons
- Not so durable
- Hard to switch between modes
Go For Wild Rechargeable Headlamp
The great thing about this headlamp is that it is rechargeable, saving you having to buy batteries and the environment having to deal with them being thrown away. At the same time, if your battery runs out by the river, you can not just add some new ones and keep going. The light is also known to dim as the battery wears out, which is not ideal.
The light itself is clear and bright, has a lot of different modes and has red light included. A cool addition is that you can turn it on and off using your hand thanks to the motion sensor, so you can get quick access to light or dark without having to fiddle through all the options.
The angle of the light only moves to 45 degrees. This is not ideal when you are walking as you will have to move your head down to see the ground.
Pros
- Turn on and off by waving your hand
- Good light
- Red light included
- Rechargeable
- Waterproof
Cons
- Loses brightness as the battery runs out
- Only moves to a 45-degree angle
DanForce IPX45 Headlamp
This is very similar to the Gearlight S1000 but it comes with a rechargeable battery instead of using AAA’s. Again a bonus and a negative, depending on how you see it. The battery is long-lasting and the brightness holds as the battery power lowers.
It has a clear light which you can focus, and comes in all the standard modes plus red light. It is said to be waterproof and weatherproof, there are reports of water being able to leak into the battery pack, so be aware of this.
The straps are supportive and comfortable but the light itself is a bit heavy if you plan on wearing it for long periods of time.
Pros
- Clear light
- Long lasting rechargeable battery
- All weather ready
- Comfortable fit
- Lifetime warranty
Cons
- Heavy
- Stiff switch
Supfire Motion Sensor Head Lamp
This is a lightweight headlamp that you can put in your pocket. It has a powerful light, all the modes you need plus a red light, which as we know is important for fishing. The red light is very dim, which is great for not spooking fish but maybe a little inconvenient if you use it for hiking around.
It is comfortable to wear and can be turned on and off by waving your hand, although this feature does not work in all the modes. It can tilt to 60-degrees, great for walking and it is splash-proof, so you won’t have to worry if you are fishing in the rain.
The headlamp comes with a rechargeable battery but the battery life is average at best.
Pros
- Lightweight
- Powerful light
- Rechargeable
- Motion-activated
- Good value
- Comfortable
- Splash proof
Cons
- Low beam is still bright
- Red light mode is dim
QS Rechargeable Headlamp
A well-made waterproof headlamp that gives a very bright light in a number of modes. It does not include a red light option, which is key when using it for fishing.
It is comfortable to wear, is not too heavy and comes with a rechargeable battery that lasts a long time but also takes a long time to charge.
The light can be focussed and tilted, the focus is not that strong so do not expect to be spotting things far away.
Pros
- Well made
- Great battery life
- Rechargeable
- Bright light
- Comfortable
- Waterproof
Cons
- Takes a while to charge
- Does not have a red light option
COSOOS Head Lamp
This headlamp is the king of convenience. It is super light and comfy, fits well and comes in a nice carry case. It is fully waterproof and runs only on a single AA battery.
It only has 2 modes, beam, and flood so you will not be able to zoom in, SOS, strobe or use a red light. The modes are very easy to adjust but the beam is a little weak.
It is simple but useful and is great value for money.
Pros
- Fully waterproof
- Runs on a single AA battery
- Lightweight
- Comfortable
- Great value
- Nice carry case
- Easy to use interface
Cons
- Not the brightest light
- No red light mode
BORUIT LED Headlamp
A comfortable well built headlamp with all the modes you can ask for. It is well made and will last a long time. It comes with all the charging gear you need, plus 2 rechargeable batteries, super handy.
Both the blue and red light are bright but you do have to go through all the modes to find each one and turn it off, meaning the strobe mode may give your eyes a shock.
The batteries can lose charge quickly in some cases, in other cases, they have lasted a long time.
Pros
- Comes with 2 rechargeable batteries
- Good brightness
- Durable
- Comfortable
- Lightweight
Cons
- Easy to turn on by mistake
- Not the best battery life
What To Look For
The main things to look for when buying a headlamp for fishing are; battery life, red light option, weatherproofing and comfort.
When you are by the water you are going to have your light off most of the time once set-up and then quickly go in and out of red light mode when you have to do something, like re-cast. Red light is key as it does not spook the fish as much as normal light.
Comfort is important as you will be wearing the lamp for long periods. You don’t want something bulky or heavy which will weigh you down or not fit quite right. It is hard to tell when you are buying online, be sure to do some research.
Battery life is important, try to pick one with long battery life. There is a choice to be made as to whether you want to use rechargeable or disposable ones. The great thing about the rechargeable option is that it will save you some cash in the long one and is better for the environment than running through a lot of AAA’s. That being said, if you run out of charge on the water, what is your plan? You could take a power bank with you but you are still going to have to wait for it to recharge, if you are organized, you may have a spare battery, but these are not included in a lot of models. If you are using disposable batteries, you just need to bring some spares and you are golden.
You are going to need a headlamp that can survive a splash or two. Make sure it is waterproof and at the very least, splashproof.
Our Favourites
The best value headlamp has to be this. It is small, comfortable, lightweight and you get two of them. It comes with a red light mode and is waterproof, the two most important factors when fishing.
The award for best allrounder goes to this guy. Again it is small, comfortable and lightweight but also rechargeable and motion-activated, which is such a useful feature. It gives a good beam and a dim red light which is great for fishing, and it is splash-proof.
The prize for being waterproof goes to this guy. This is the only headlamp that can actually be submerged and survive. Unfortunately, it does not come with a red light option or it would win most of the categories hands down.
